Reflecting on the First "Da Nang - The Learning City": Igniting Beyond Boundary Learning

THE STATISTICS

On October 18 - 19, 2025, the inaugural Da Nang - Learning City community event took place, filled with meaningful lessons and experiences. We are truly grateful to all the brothers, sisters, friends, and the "good karma" (fortunate connections) that contributed to co-creating a learning community that transcends traditional boundaries in Da Nang.

We hope this is just the starting point for True Wealth: the act of giving, generosity, and sharing knowledge and experience, to the opening of doors for "strangers who feel like old friends"—all creating a sense of abundance and fulfillment.

We are deeply impressed by the statistics we gathered:

  • - Reach: The event reached nearly 17,000 people.
  • - Registrations: 52 total (16 Hosts and 36 Attendees).
  • - Activities: 15 activities organized across Da Nang.
  • - Spaces: 8 different venues were shared for community activities.
  • - Experiment: 66.7% of the activities were organized for the first time or are currently in development.
  • - Special Mention: A friend in Hanoi, despite being unable to attend in Da Nang, organized their own community activity during the festival to join the collective flow.
  • However, numbers cannot fully capture the positive impact. We invite you to read the reflections and observations we recorded from the community.

    EVERYONE HAS GIFTS TO SHARE

The festival was an opportunity for us to shed the notion that one must be "expert" or "professional" to host an activity. The host experiences were incredibly diverse: some hosted for the first time, some returned after a long hiatus, some were testing new ideas, and others were seasoned community veterans.

Regardless of their background, everyone carried unique talents:

    • The art of storytelling through food.
    • Questions posed to reflect on our relationship with nature.
    • Self-taught skills and practices for making essential household products.
    • An afternoon of doodling and sharing personal stories.
    • The touch of a brush on skin, creating joyful body art.
    • Macro-questions about community, ecology, a more humane "New Economy," or solutions for education and the housing crisis.

In these journeys, there may be imperfections. But ultimately, they are wonderful opportunities for each person to practice, cultivate, and share their talents—reminding us that learning is an infinite process with no end.

Being imperfect is a natural part of being human. Perhaps that is why many attendees shared with their hosts that they, too, want to contribute to the community's collective learning, even if they don't feel confident yet. Through participation, they may have rediscovered "hidden treasures" within themselves. We look forward to these contributions in future events.

A SPACE TO EXPERIMENT WITH THE NEW

We all have business ideas, social initiatives, or dreams we wish to pursue. However, a lack of confidence or space often prevents these ideas from reaching the world.

"Da Nang - Learning City" serves as an ideal incubator for emerging ideas. Hosts utilized the festival to launch their own initiatives:

    • “A Journey Back to Culture and Roots in Nam O”: The first trial of the XomTour social initiative within their "Radical Tour" series (short-term educational travel).
    • “Dining In The Dark”: A first experiment by Ly Ly, a young food enthusiast, aiming to promote a green and healthy lifestyle. This activity has already opened new business opportunities for her.
    • “Are We Nature?” Card Game: An initiative by Nguyen Than Thuy Linh. This deck promotes reflection on our bond with nature, and Linh hopes to publish and commercialize the product.

This event is not merely a learning space; it is a Living Lab—safe enough and practical enough for everyone to begin executing their long-held ideas.

REIMAGINING LEARNING AND THE POWER OF COMMUNITY

In modern society, we often forget that learning happens beyond the four walls of a classroom and is not only delivered by a teacher on a podium. Da Nang - Learning City showcased diverse approaches and a liberating spirit of education.

The intersection of intergenerational learning, peer-to-peer learning, and community-sourced knowledge created rich dialogues:

    • Diversity of Age: Participants ranged from 20-year-olds to "friends" as old as 70.
    • Diversity of Background: People from various industries and fields contributed to the richness of the community's learning experience.

Furthermore, the event demonstrated the immense power of community generosity. Numerous spaces—from private homes and cafes to community hubs—opened up to create a true "Learning City" unfettered by traditional institutions.

The "Campuses" of our learning community included:

    - Nha De (Cricket House) in Nam O (a small home of a youth group).

    - Minh’s private home in the Phuc Loc Vien neighborhood.

    - Dune (2) Cafe.

    - Loc Quang Rice Paper Shop.

  • - Mr. Vinh’s house (in the Nam O fish sauce village).
  • - Community spaces such as the Vcil Community Office, Vcil Living Lab - Da Nang, and the reading room at Chan Dat Living Room.
  • We feel a deep sense of abundance and gratitude for what the community is building together in Da Nang.
