Treasures Awaiting to Be Explored

Every neighborhood, every piece of land, is a treasure waiting to be explored. These treasures manifest in many different aspects of life: social interactions, rituals, historical and cultural monuments, local stories, and folk music. They are also present in the daily lives of local people, through individuals' lives, the food they cook, their interactions with each other, and with nature.

However, we are gradually forgetting these riches – riches that manifest in various forms, not solely financial.

Members of Vcil Community have been residents of Da Nang for many years. We recognize that Da Nang's learning potential extends far beyond its attractive tourist spots. This city is a potential treasure for fostering human, intellectual, and ecological development. Driven by the spirit of fostering a new lifestyle, connecting the community, and further exploring Da Nang's potential, Vcil Community, in collaboration with Vcil Living Lab - Da Nang, created the 'Da Nang - City of Learning' community event.

This event will leverage the community's diversity and richness to transform the city into a Festival of Learning — where learning is disseminated, nurtured, and accessible to all. Learning will not be confined within the four walls of a classroom, not limited to a single method, and knowledge will not come from just one teacher. Learning can happen at any time, anyone can be a teacher, and knowledge comes not only from schools but also from the community. Everywhere becomes a learning campus.

Opening of the Collective Intellectual Treasure

To do this, we apply the “Open Space Technology” method in the Art of Hosting. This tool was born from a core question: How to maximize the learning potential of a collective, in an environment with almost no limits?

“Open Space” is built on the firm belief that each person in the community is a unique treasure of values (knowledge, skills, life experience, passion). Anyone, regardless of generation or field, can shape their own learning journey and that of their community.

With an Asian spirit, and as a pioneer in reimagining education globally, Manish Jain called this “Open Sacred Treasures.” This is the key to unlocking Collective Intelligence, where learning takes place naturally, freely, and driven by an intrinsic desire to explore within each individual.

Creating a Rich, Diverse, and Inclusive City

This initiative aims to create a space for learning and connection within Da Nang with the following specific objectives:

1. Community Building

Building a community that aims to create a happy and regenerative space in Da Nang. Engage with local people and discover new facets of the city.

2. Reimagining Education

Open up free, inclusive learning spaces for everyone.

Promote active learning, encourage peer-to-peer learning, foster intrinsic motivation, self-directed learning, and community-based learning.

Fostering a culture of giving, encouraging community members to share resources—from knowledge and experience to living space—to contribute and enrich the community.

What would a learning festival look like?

Imagine, on the same day, many learning activities taking place in different corners, from private homes to public places (parks, sea, rivers, streams, mountains, forests); from the Vcil Community office to the Living Lab, or from traditional craft villages to the Da Nang museum,... with participation from people of all generations and from many walks of life. It would truly be a festival!

The “City of Learning” Movement

After a period of activity, the “City of Learning” Festival has also emerged in other cities, stemming from the original idea of “Da Nang - City of Learning”. We have observed activities taking place simultaneously with the Festival in Da Nang. Currently, Vcil Community members are inTP. Ho Chi Minhand Vung TauWe are transforming our homes into cities of learning, connection, and giving!

How to participate in the Learning Festival?

We invite you to join us in one of the following two roles:

1. The Flower – HOST

As a Flower - Host, you are the one who unveils a "treasure" for the community to discover. You will organize and facilitate activities to welcome interested participants. Hosts have total freedom to choose their own topics, activities, methods, and venues. You are also welcome to attend other sessions before and after your own.

2. The Bee – PARTICIPANT
