Tu Viet Seasonal Rice
Mr. Tu Viet (a Vcil Community member), born and raised in Cu La - Minh Luong, Kien Giang (now An Giang), is deeply connected to the traditional seasonal rice culture of the Mekong Delta region. Faced with the reality that many rare seasonal rice varieties are disappearing and modern mechanized monoculture farming relies heavily on chemical fertilizers — causing pollution, soil degradation, and biodiversity loss — Mr. Tu decided to restore and preserve the nature-harmonious seasonal rice cultivation method. This farming approach works in harmony with natural cycles, sowing and planting only one rice crop per year, allowing rest periods for the soil to naturally recover. He applies traditional techniques such as plowing with buffalo power, using organic fertilizers from duckweed, fish waste, and duck manure to nourish the soil, while preserving and multiplying distinctive seasonal rice varieties such as floating rice and deep-water rice — varieties wonderfully adapted to local ecological conditions. At Tu Viet Seasonal Rice Farm, he also organizes sharing sessions inviting community members to experience and evaluate the rice quality, contributing to the preservation of cultural values and the sustainable traditional seasonal rice ecosystem for future generations.
