STORYTELLING SCHOLARSHIP FOR "LITTLE TIBET" LADAKH 2026 - FULL & PARTIAL SCHOLARSHIPS TO LADAKH WITH VCIL TRAVEL SCHOOL

ABOUT US

In May 2022, we visited Ladakh for the first time, driven by curiosity sparked by two documentaries about education and rethinking development filmed in the region.

Our guide, who helped us explore the land, shared stories, translated, and connected us with the locals, was Kunzang Deachen. Having grown up amidst majestic mountains, immersed in Ladakhi folk songs and cuisine, and witnessing the changes in her homeland, Kunzang was determined to contribute to Ladakh's sustainable development. Consequently, she worked with Local Futures as a researcher, journalist, and social advocate.

In just 14 days of exploration, we learned so much from this land and its people. We saw a way of life in harmony with nature, integrated into daily practices. We heard the folk songs and witnessed the diligence and resilience of their labor. We encountered indigenous knowledge and wisdom passed down for centuries. It was an alternative way of living, a stark contrast to today’s hurried, individualistic, and materialistic lifestyle. We also saw social initiatives addressing real-world issues like environmental degradation, the loss of indigenous knowledge, community fragmentation, and education disconnected from cultural context.

During our journey in Ladakh, Kunzang told us: "There are no Ladakhi faces in tourists' photos."

That wasn't just a casual remark from a young woman. It was an observation on how visitors pass through Ladakh. Tourists come and go, bringing back vibrant photos of snow-capped mountains or ancient monasteries—things that don't require much time to capture. To get photos with the Ladakhi people, travelers need to slow down, live more deeply, and immerse themselves in the local life.

Vcil Travel School Ladakh was born to invite a different way of traveling and learning. By going slower, deeper, and connecting more authentically with the community, we offer a path for travelers who want to explore responsibly. Through social initiatives, visits to remote villages, learning at a school for "students who failed exams," conversations with Lamas about Tibetan Buddhism, and finding quiet moments for oneself and with nature, we invite you to travel in order to learn.

The journey in Ladakh is a process of unlearning, a reconnection with oneself, and a reflection on what development, happiness, and success truly mean. Ultimately, what does each person take away to bring back to their own life at home?

LADAKH STORYTELLING SCHOLARSHIP 2026: JOIN US IN TELLING HUMAN-CENTRIC STORIES

After seven successful programs, both we and our participants have gained invaluable lessons from this "Little Tibet." These stories deserve to be shared and heard more widely. The most profound stories aren't found in social media "stories," but in handwritten journals, photographs that capture the soul of human connection, and the quiet, internal transformations that unfold long after returning home.

We want this content to become meaningful storytelling—allowing those who haven't visited Ladakh to experience a side of it beyond just photos of snow-capped mountains. For those who have been, we hope these stories remind them they aren't alone in their personal growth, and we aim to inspire more meaningful ways to travel and learn.

Therefore, for the Vcil Travel School Ladakh VIII expedition, we are looking for companions—photographers, writers, filmmakers, or anyone with a gift for storytelling—to join us in capturing and spreading these values.

We prioritize content quality and alignment with our core values.
