[The Soil Project '23 - Module II] Learning Journey in the Mekong Delta

The Mekong Delta learning journey is a cornerstone experience of The Soil Project, offering direct exposure to sustainable agriculture, community resilience, and adaptive livelihoods in one of Asia's most important agricultural regions.

Why the Mekong Delta?

The Mekong Delta faces complex challenges: climate change, salinization, water scarcity, and pressure from industrial agriculture. Yet it's also home to incredible examples of community adaptation, agroecology, and sustainable food systems.

What Participants Will Experience

  • Visit to organic rice farms and agroforestry projects
  • Learn about community-based water management
  • Explore cooperative models for farmer empowerment
  • Understand traditional ecological knowledge and modern sustainability approaches
  • Connect with farmer cooperatives and social enterprises
  • Participate in community meals and cultural exchange

Learning Outcomes

Participants will understand:

  • The realities and opportunities of Mekong agriculture
  • Community adaptation strategies in face of climate change
  • Models for sustainable livelihoods and food systems
  • How to apply these learnings in their own contexts

Dates: June 15-20, 2023

Location: Various sites in the Mekong Delta (Vinh Long, Tra Vinh, Soc Trang provinces)

Group Size: 25-35 participants

Cost: Sliding scale ($200-500 USD equivalent)

Includes: Accommodation, meals, transportation, guides, and learning materials
