👀 About the documentary "Schooling the World": Around the world, education is mentioned as the best way to change lives, become knowledgeable, gain status and be respected. But what if education becomes a tool effective to brainwashing, invade and dominate the mind of people. With this concern in mind, Schooling the World was filmed with beautiful scenes in rural Ladakh of India, where children are forced to school to learn Western values and knowledge and then believe it is the value of progress and development, while culture and lifestyle of their own and village they is inferior and backward.

The documentary "Schooling the World" challenges and forces us to reconsider about definition and beliefs about what we call knowledge, learning, ignorance, poverty, success and wealth. The documentary does not provide a complete answer but raises many questions so that all of us reconsider and open conversations and debates deeper about the beliefs and values that we have believed until now, especially through the way school education that we received.

🎅🏼 About the guest speaker Manish Jain: is a pioneer in the work of deschooling (eliminate old thinking patterns specifically and about life in general) and recreate diverse indigenous knowledge system. And the case of Manish then particularly interesting because he studied at Harvard then worked at Morgan Stanley, then UN, UNESCO and World Bank and after realized the nature of the globalization system dominating the world, he realized that he needed to return to India and learn from the grandmother illiterate of his. Since then, he became a person very wise, including questioning again the school system common nowadays.

He is co-founder and coordinator of Shikshantar: The Peoples' Institute for Rethinking Education and Development, co-founder Swaraj University, University in Prison, and Learning Societies Unconference. Recently, Manish also operates the Global Ecoversities network.
