[SEP - Thailand] Full & Partial Scholarships Training Program in Thailand: Sufficient Economy Philosophy and Sustainable Development Goals

☘️ At The Soil Project, we realized that nowadays there is a transformation about sustainable development model and recreate is taking place, but the question we have is: are these alternatives truly sustainable and alternatives, or are they merely a "green washing" by the system to maintain itself?

This is the reason why the SEP (Sustainable Economic Philosophy) program in Thailand 2023 is organized with the aims of:

1. To explore Thailand's approach to sustainable development and the philosophy of enough economy

2. To learn from practitioners and activists working on Buddhist economic philosophy and sustainable livelihoods

3. To visit and learn from communities practicing alternative economics, community-based enterprises, and social enterprises

4. To reflect critically on the meaning of sustainability and development in the context of global capitalism

PROGRAM DATES

July 3-9, 2023

PROGRAM LOCATION

Thailand (Chiang Mai and Bangkok)

PROGRAM COST

Full Scholarship: 100% coverage of all costs (airfare, accommodation, meals, logistics)

Partial Scholarship: 50% coverage of program costs

Self-funded: 2,400 USD (airfare + accommodation) + 400 USD (logistics)

NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS

Limited to 20 participants (8 full scholarship, 7 partial scholarship, 5 self-funded)

PROGRAM CONTENT

Day 1: Arrival and introduction to Chiang Mai

Day 2: Discussion on Buddhist economic philosophy and the philosophy of enough with scholars and monks

Day 3: Visit to communities practicing alternative economics and community-based enterprises

Day 4: Discussion on sustainable development and its critiques with local activists

Day 5: Visit to social enterprises and learning about sustainable livelihoods

Day 6: Travel to Bangkok and visit to urban communities working on sustainability

Day 7: Reflection and closing ceremony

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of the program, participants will:

1. Understand Buddhist economic philosophy and its application in real-world contexts

2. Be familiar with alternative economic models and sustainable livelihoods

3. Be able to critically reflect on sustainable development and its limitations

4. Have built connections with local practitioners and activists in Thailand
