Recently I participated in a training course on gender equality and learning about SOGIES (Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity and Gender Expression and Gender Characteristics). This course was a profound and mind-opening experience for me. While I found the knowledge learned extremely useful and valuable, I wanted to write this article to share and reflect on what I learned.
One of the things I enjoyed and appreciated most in the program was the approach of the facilitator, Tram Tran. The way they created a safe and welcoming space for everyone to feel comfortable sharing different personal thoughts was exceptional. They encouraged mutual respect and guided discussions in a critical dialogue manner. This process helped me understand myself more clearly as well as the issues surrounding these topics. I realized that gender is not just binary but is complex and diverse. This understanding will help me become a better person from now on, more aware and respectful of differences. I thank VCIL Community for creating the opportunity for me to expand my understanding of this important issue.
