SEKEM: A Sustainable Community in the Egyptian Desert

The story of Dr Ibrahim Abouleish who in 1977 founded SEKEM, a sustainable agricultural and social settlement on seventy hectares of desert land in Egypt. By 2004, SEKEM oversaw a network of over 800 farms. In 2003, Sekem and Dr Abouleish were awarded the Alternative Nobel Prize.
